| Biography: |
Fortune is a graduate of Speed Racer's Wrestling Academy. He started training in January of 2002, and was brought up to the main roster when the AGW reopened in June of 2002. This was a very difficult jump for Fortune, because he was still WAY too green to be wrestling on TV and he hated that he KNEW he wasn't ready. However, Speed thought what better way for Fortune to learn the business than to be thrown out into the fire? He teamed Fortune with the head trainer of the AGW Academy Overkill, and The Chosen were born.
However, The Chosen had very little success. Despite having the endorsement of Speed Racer and Violet Morris both, they just couldn't succeed in singles or tag team matches. Couple that with the fact that Eric Von Doom, who graduated at the same time as Fortune did, had 10 times more success than Fortune did....Fortune's confidence level plummeted big-time. A serious injury to Overkill ended the team of The Chosen in late 2002, and Fortune asked to go back to AGW Academy to train.
But Speed Racer, legendary jerk that he is, refused to let Fortune train any more. Speed insisted that Fortune was ready for prime time now and didn't need to train anymore. Fortune, stuck under his first big-league contract through the end of 2003, simply sat out the remainder of his contract. He'd be brought in for occasional tournaments and special events where an extra body was necessary but that was about it. He was fed up with the business and especially the man who trained him. Speed was only giving him "tough love" but that style of "support" didn't really coexist well with Fortune's volatile personality. The only friend it seemed Fortune had left was Eric Von Doom, who felt terrible for what happened to Fortune, but whose hands were tied in getting him extra training.
So fast forward to January 1, 2004, when Fortune got a call from millionaire Joseph Cash. Mr. Cash was planning a pseudo-"invasion" of the AGW to try and get some money that was owed to him from Speed Racer and Violet Morris...and to try and take over the AGW in the long run. Mr. Cash offered to fund the additional training Fortune needed so that he could come back, truly realize his potential, and stick it to Speed all at once. In exchange, Fortune would have to assist Cash in his efforts to reclaim his money. Fortune did just that, and for the entirety of 2004, Cash Inc. was a thorn in the sides of most of the company. Their goal was to stay persistent until an opportunity arose itself to strike the "inner circle" of the AGW. Fortune fared quite well during this time eventually getting two North American Title reigns in 2004.
Eventually, Cash Inc. merged with what was left of Speed Racer's Corporation to form "The Elite" and Fortune quickly became discouraged by the direction they were headed. However, out of loyalty to Mr. Cash and his daughter Kathryn who was sort of their "field general", Fortune stuck around. Speed quickly changed his tune about Fortune, and lauded his ability every chance he got, but Rick knew he was just backtracking now that Cash Inc. had made Fortune marketable. In 2005, Fortune headlined the Battlezone PPV as he challenged the World Heavyweight Champion Misery for the World Title. Rick lost, but it was a hell of a match and he gained an infinite amount of respect for Misery....and Fortune visibly showed that respect, which further infuriated Speed. To the point where Speed got on Fortune's case after the match. Rick wasted no time in quitting The Elite and breaking off on his own. He got the support of other former Elite members Overkill and Tempest, and the group formed their own heel stable known as Superiority Complex.
2005 was a very good year for risk as he co-headlined the next PPV after Battlezone. And at AGW Vs. The World, Rick took on Gris Lee for the Intercontinental Title. Rick once again put up a tremendous fight against an AGW veteran but once again came up short in his attempt at gaining more gold. Now in 2006, Fortune looks to work from the tremendous 2005 he had. |
