Damnation and a Day

(As these words fade from the screen, the standard FCTV intro runs. As it comes to it’s close we cut to a live shot of the sold out FCW Arena. As usual, the building is packed to the rafters with rabid fans. The usual pyrotechnics open the show. Then "You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar..." by Queens of the Stone Age plays over the PA system as the new FCW World Tag Champs, Brad Steel and El Estrella, make their way to the ring, greeted with a mixture of cheers and boos.  Steel slides in the ring and poses at a ring post with his FCW Tag Title belt while El Estrella waits in the center of the ring with his belt.  Steel walks over to the side of the ring and grabs the house mic.)

Steel: Well look at what I’ve got.  Another title to add to my trophy case.  People can say that the Heretics had my number for a while, which they did, but every dog has his day and last week was my day.  Of course, I had to carry this putz over to the big "W" but you do what you got to do.  I don't understand the guy but I'm sure he has something to say...

(At this point, Steel hands the mic to El Estrella. A small "Si or No" chant can be heard.)

El Estrella:  Si or...

(At this point Steel angrily takes the mic away from Estrella.)

Steel: What the hell is your problem? I’m sick of your Mexican Mind Game BS! Did you come here to mock the FCW, my home, the place where I truly belong?  Nah ah, not gonna fly here Hombre.  Why don't you do the people a favor...SPEAK ENGLISH!!!

(El Estrella tilts his head sideways in confused manner and rips the mic away from Steel. El Estrella raises the mic to his mouth.)

El Estrella:  Then...

(El Estrella lifts his mask up far enough to reveal his neck and mouth.  Attached to his throat is a small black box held by some tape.  Estrella rips away the small box and tape and puts the mic to his mouth.)

El Estrella: (in a familiar voice) How's this?

(A few members of the audience have already begun booing, but the rest don't begin to boo until Estrella takes his mask off to reveal...Sambo. Steel looks on in seeming shock, drops his belt, and gets ready for a fight.  Sambo drops his belt, and the house mic, and looks ready to fight too.  The two circle each other, as the crowd begins cheering in anticipation for the upcoming fight. Steel and Sambo stop circling each other, head to the center of the ring...and shake hands.  The crowd begins booing almost unanimously as both Sambo and Steel now have big grins on their faces.)

Sambo:  Oh c'mon!  You really didn't think you'd seen the last of me, did you? I mean, sure big bad James Crawford said that he had no intentions of re-signing me unless I publicly apologized, but did you really think I was going to make it that easy for him? Of course not!  What you just saw is the culmination of two months of planning.  You see, I knew for a fact that, even if Hell did freeze over and I "apologized", Crawford wouldn't renew my contract.  So I did what I always do: I took advantage of the situation and made it work for me.

You see, I knew that there was a bit of trouble going on, not just with the FCW, but with wrestling in general.  Let's face it, the number of up and coming stars is fading by the day.  So where many people see possible troubles, I saw opportunity.  I found out for me that Crawford was sending talent scouts to Mexico and, thanks to good ol' Hazard and his DDI, I had plenty of money to bribe the local promoter into getting me a match on the right night and a costume to conceal my identity.  And since the idea of a new luchadore with the talent of a five-year veteran is a promising prospect, the FCW didn't waste time in offering me a contract.  From there, it looked like smooth sailing.

But then I realized something.  Even though I had the perfect disguise to last me the first few weeks, eventually, people would get suspicious.  And at the same time, I had no intentions of staying disguised until June, when I plan on quitting for good.  There arose the problem.  Once my cover was blown, I knew Crawford would just outsmart me by benching me for the rest of my contract.  That was when I realized that there was one thing that could guarantee I would remain active after I revealed my identity...a title belt.

Now, my plan did hit a minor snag when I lost in the finals of the Lethal Lottery to Monarch and Mark Payne, but you know, that was easily fixed.  All that I needed was to win the Tag Titles, which is exactly what me and Steel went out and did. So, my job is secure.  Let's face it; there aren't any teams out there that can actually BEAT us.  So until someone proves us wrong, I guess I'll just be staying right here in the FCW.  And there's not a damned thing anyone can do about that!

(With that, Sambo and Steel make their exit to a chorus of boos. We cut to the announce table.)

Kevin Cole: What a way to get the show underway this week! El Estrella is really “The Star Player” Sambo!

Nik Cain: Well son of a bitch. I could have lived without ever seeing him in FCW again and I damn sure know I ain’t alone.

Kevin Cole: Well we have a huge show this week and, if it makes you feel better, Sambo and Steel and not scheduled to be out here again tonight. But Mark Payne will be here tonight as he defends the FCW World Title against Monarch!

Nik Cain: Now that makes me feel better. These two have had a long-standing rivalry that I’ve followed ever since it first started. I still remember their first meeting, a match for the hardcore title in the short-lived and long defunct Victory Wrestling Alliance. This feud has spanned multiple years and multiple wrestling organizations. They always put on one hell of a show and tonight should be no exception, as they fight for the single greatest prize in all of professional wrestling, the FCW World Title.

Kevin Cole: The Television Title will be on the line as well as new champion The Paladin takes on Tragedy!

Nik Cain: Talk about a change of pace. The Paladin had to beat a 400-pound monster to win that belt only to turn around and have to defend it against a 200-pound speed demon. Tragedy is a criminally underrated singles star, earning most of his praise for being one half of the Thespian Express. That should be a great match.

Kevin Cole: We’re going to get the show underway with the in-ring debut of Chris Zion!

Nik Cain: Like so many other people who actually decide to be professional wrestlers, this guy doesn’t seem completely right in the head. Who am I kidding; I think he’s an ordained minister in the Church of Latter Day Fruit Loops. But he seems to have it out for Jean, so he can’t be all bad. But let’s see if he’s got what it takes in the ring to compete with a man like Jean, whose held every piece of gold there is to hold here.
